Topic: Lets see your black engine pictures!!

I am going to be starting a new build and since the frame far enough gone, I am going to be doing a custom build rather than a stock restoration.


Anyone who has painted their engines Black, matte black, gloss, or any other dark shade of color, can you please post up your pictrues and what colors you used if possible???

I know I want a black engine, I am just not sure which parts I want to paint a gloss black vs a matte black.

Painting or powder coating?

Satin Black powder for the first.
Wrinkle finish powder for the second.

Don't dismiss powder so quickly, with the right prep, the finish of PC will be far superior. My K3 engine below, all Black Magic powder. Its not assembled, but you get the idea...

I powder coated a 750 motor for my buddies bike with a sandy texture matte black and it looks awesome still to this day but man was it alot of work, not really worth it in my book. And when we baked the jugs the sleeves wanted to come out a bit, i also was worried the valve guides might move but it all worked out great in the end. I painted my turbo 750 witj a gloss black plasikote brand engine paint and its been the best emgine paint ive used so far, its really tough and has held its shine for years now and if you scratch it its easy to touch it up unlike powdercoat. Sorry no pictures tho

Ed, In your first picture you will notice that round plug in the top left of the first photo. That is actually a round plug in a hole sealed with an o-ring. The o-ring is not listed as a part by Honda. I don't know the baking temp of powder. The last time I went through my engine I went to an o-ring supplier and bought a new viton o-ring to replace my then 30 year old one. A few taps from the inside and this circle plug pops out. Dan
