Hi
I have been on the SOHC4 list since April '03. I am finally signing up for the forums.
A 1976 CB750 F1 followed me home from the Walneck's swap meet, 15 October, in Springfield, Ohio. It has sat out side on the side stand for about six years. So it is in need of some love. I am slowly working on my first goal, to hear it run.
I have a pile of CB500 parts. I hope to build a running CB550 from this pile of parts. This project has been stalled for some time. I need to put some time and energy into this project.
I read that the motto of the VJMC, NA or UK?, was restore and preserve. My motto is to get running and ride.
I am located in Ohio about nine miles south of exit 54 from I-70. Corn across the road and beans next door.
I have been having trouble with reading the forum. Some times my computer just stops responding. I hit Ctrl Alt Delete and end task. This sends me back to my ISP's program. I click on sohc4.us and start all over again. Any one else having this problem? Any ideas on how to fix this problem?

Welcome. Are you using Windows? What browser are you using? Is it a dial-up connection?

Hi Bob
I am running Windows 98 SE, Explorer, and using a dial up connection.

Based on my own experience, Win 98 was pretty bad. If your system is capable, I would seriously consider upgrading to XP and the current Explorer version. Keep in mind the upcoming Vista OS, though it will be a long time before I jump on that one. As far as I'm concerned, XP was the first decent OS MS came up with. Too bad it took them.. how long? to finely get it reasonably right. ;)

While not wanting to turn this into a PC techie forum, If you are running 98 then the PC is probably pretty old and would be incapable of running XP (requires huge RAM etc)

The forum software is optimised for the latest OS software and I'm pretty sure that the developers don't really test against old versions of Windows, IE etc - especially one thats not even supported my Microsoft any more (or soon to be ditched)

While a new(er) PC may cost more than your F1 did (?), it may be the only answer if you ultimately want to spend time on here and other sites that spark your interest.

Hi Bob & Steve
A new operating system and a new computer would be nice. But no time soon, I think. The cost would more than I paid for the CB750 F1 plus what I expect to put into it to get it running plus next years licence and insurance and ????.
Some times it locks up very early in a session but usually it is about time for me to stop and go do some ting else.

I hear ya. You might try experimenting with a different browser; Firefox, Opera, something like that.

welcome tom! i hope you get that beast running... i've got a 400f that is in the same boat... well, actually garage  :D

anyway, your computer problem is mostly related to dialup i would bet.  i ran dialup for about 10 years and many of the problems that i experienced were based from slowness or my inability to wait after i'd clicked a link so i'd click it again and again and again... computers don't like that.  especially old ones that don't have much virtual memory to make things/commands happen quickly.

try firefox (it's free shareware) but if you can... get an older version as 2.0 may be instable and too ram intensive for your system.

Welcome, Tom!  I'll vouch for Firefox 100%  Much better than IE, I haven't had any fatal errors in about 5 weeks since I switched.

Hi
I downloaded Firefox a couple of days ago. No lockups since.
Slowly cleaning carbs. Getting the last very little piece of crud out of the slow jet is a pain.

Glad to hear a new browser solved your problem. Carbs are fun, aren't they.  ::)
