Winter Teardown/Spring Shakedown
« on: November 09, 2006, 07:43:49 PM »
I missed todays fine riding weather because I have already started dissassembling my CB for a repaint and stem bearing upgrade. I wouldn't even have been able to attempt this without the help I have found here. I am rounding up material from David Silvers (side covers), Reproduction Decals, CycleReCycle (used headlight bucket and tapered roller bearings), VintageHondaPaint, Service Honda (new gas cap). I pulled the tank badges off using fishing line - 2x 20lb test did the trick. I want to clean up the fork tubes, caliper, top triple clamp. Maybe new tires this year. I will save swingarm, engine and frame for another time - I'm probably doing it alll backwards.

I figure I have till April to get this done, but I am aching for a ride when the sun shines and the thermometer rises like it did today. This all sounds like a good excuse to get another motorbike. (919, FZ1, ST1300, Interceptor, FJR1300???)

The old faded and cracked:

Hey mcpuffet, I love my CB, but I don't need anything else that needs any work - way too much of that already, and most of it not on the Honda. Someone put a thread up a while back about what a modern day CB750 might be - that might just be the ticket for me.

I have a travel bug, but I'm not sure that I fully trust a 36 year old ride - even though it has NEVER let me down. I mean, even the grease in the wheel bearings is 36 years old. For now, my Saturday morning countryside jaunts are the limit for me and my CB.

When I look at the photo, I am trying to remember the whole bike looking like the unfaded headlight shell, and I can't recall it. I hope it all turns out well.

Picked-up the paint work for my K0 the other day. I had it done by the same guy as Kevin. He does great work, top-notch, the pics and artificial light doesn't do it justice. Can't wait to get it back on the bike.

Unfortunate side-affect will be that the rest of the bike will now look like crap. I guess that will be future work. :-\

That's the plan for my K3, except I'm taking some artistic license and using the K6 color scheme, as I find the colors offered in '73 not very pleasing to the eye...

Unfortunately, I've turned into one of these people who has the bright idea to do a web site.. than not maintain it. :-\ Also unfortunately, I just switched ISP's so that account will be disappearing shortly. I hope to move everything to the new space and hopefully update it as well.

Ready to roll, shakedown ride today. This isn't a total resto, I'm not after a show bike. I will be a Nervous Nellie till I'm sure that no tank badges or side covers will be falling off at 50mph. Oh, and I will be ditching the sissy bar too:

20 mi Saturday, 80 mi Sunday, no problems, only a new left turn signal at Mast Rd and North Territorial that my bike wouldnt trip.

The first spring ride is a wonderful thing, first rider wave, first time through the gears at 6500rpm - just great.
