Oil pump. Washer between oil relief cap and spring?
« on: March 01, 2016, 09:33:34 AM »
Hello!
Im in the middle of overhauling 2 oil pumps. On one I found a washer in the oil relief cap. In the other one I didn't. Should this washer be there? Can't see it on the parts diagram but it makes sense that the spring shouldn't be against the naked aliminium in the cap.

It sits between nr 6 and 7 on the attached picture.

Anyone who has taken a couple of these apart and knows?

Regards
Johan

I haven't taken apart as many oil pumps as some of the other fellows around here, but I have disassembled many of them and have never found a washer there.

Most likely this, based on an old magazine article that was posted on the forums where it was mentioned that old race builds used to shim the relief valve springs to increase the overall pressure.

Probably something like that. I'll go without it as its meant to be.

Thanks for the answers!
