RE: Said Good Bye to FIOS Today
« on: February 23, 2016, 02:06:21 PM »
So after a frustrating call with a FIOS rep I called TWC and switched over the the cheapest plan they had $14.99 for a whopping 2mb per second!  Why in the word would I do that you might ask?  How about saving $61 a month.

I told the verizon people that all I do is surf the net and watch a little Youtube.com on small screen.  Guess the internet still works fine.  They totally under estimated my resolve to switch.  You would figure it would be cheaper to keep a 5 year loyal customer, but noooo!  So I gave them the boot.

The frustrating part is why way people try to negotiate now at days.  Negotiation to me implies there is some willingness on both sides to compromise to strike a deal.  Not with this rep.  I was saying $20 for 15Mbps and she was saying $90 for $50 Mbps.  There was no compromise.

The thing that ticks me off is that I started at $35 per month, then it went to $50 then $76 for the same exact service.  So they could have given me a better rate, but choose not to.

They did however offer $25 off my current plan for one year, but only after I submitted the disconnect notice.  I really thing FIOS has gotten too big for their britches.  I showed them now I am surfing the web at 3G speeds the same as my cell phone.

I'm using a dongle with only 5GB for $50, which only lasts around 3 weeks at a time. Oh well, I didn't like porn all that much anyway....... ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

I gave Comcast/Xfinity the boot several months ago.  Best choice ever.
My monthly bill went from $250 (cable/phone/internet) to $60 (internet).
There is plenty of good stuff to watch online.

Good for you!  These guys think no one can live without cable, they are wrong.  I have had my TV connected to my PC for years and have been watching shows for cheap.

It is the way to go IMO.  My cell phone and internet run me about $60 a month now and that is fine by me.  Switching saved me $720 per year.

Looks like you saved a whopping $2,280 per year!  That is a new SOHC4 bike per year in savings. ha,ha,ha.  Time to grow the herd.

Yeah...its a big savings.  I picked up cable again, just for the NFL season, and I realized within minutes i couldnt stand all the garbage commercials and other nonsense shows I thought I needed at one time.
I even tried an OTA HD antenna, but i'm in the shadow of a hill, so I cant get anything coming out of Seattle  ::)
Im just under $70/mo right now.

We use the Popcorn Time app for streaming the latest movies, and just push it to the TV, commercial free

Other than the big names (netflix, hulu, amazon, etc..) of online content, what other FREE services do you guys use?

Time Warned sucks, they pissed my wife off a year ago and we switched.

We now have Dish and am pretty happy with it.  And we dropped the land line, the phone would ring and we never answered 'cause it was just solicitors!
Friends and family always call the cell anyway, and that is free for me, my company covers it.

I have had Cable and FIOs several times. When I get pissed at one I switch to the other. Once you have been gone awhile the one you left calls you up and make a sweeter deal. The third call is usually the best.  ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
