Adhesive for metal badges
« on: February 28, 2016, 12:09:35 pm »
So I just painted my K1 tank and had to take the metal badges off. I want to get them back on with an adhesive that:

1. Will hold
2. Not wreck the hard body and paint work I just put into this bike.

Any suggestions?

"Amazing Goop", get it at HD for $5.

I just used some on freshly painted side covers.

The tank has no OEM fastener, clips that hold the tank badges? No need of anything more

+2 on 3m two sided tape. I think it comes in different thicknesses. Once applied, it's hard to remove, and it'll last
a LONG time. It's for automotive use. One of the sidecover badges on my 550 has it due to broken pegs, and its
held for several years now. I'd apply it after giving your paint time to completely cure, but you knew that...

Probably not needed but I would let the paint degas and cure a bit before I did anything like that but I'm goofy that way....3M tape gets my vote! :)

I ad mixed results with 3m tape when using on a  chrome plastic grill for some high mileage club badges .  But, on cured paint you'll be cursing it if you have to redo the paint work down the road as it sticks like gorilla snot.

Speaking of gorilla
Gorilla glue would work but it is extremely tough and difficlt to remove if it didnt foam up from enough water, controlling excess foam can be a pain too.
White version doesn't foam as much but shelf life is short on either.

So, Im with camp of 3m tape and then goop.
