paint stripper and plastic...

Will stripper products damage the tailpiece on my 'F'?  'cause it'd be a lot easier than sandpaper.

You can gently sandblast them without damaging them.  I do that to prep covers for paint.  Stripper will melt the plastic and/or fiberglass.  That is what it is designed to do.

Yeah, no paint stripper.  you'll end up with goo.
If the piece is not damaged, and you just intend to repaint, it'll only take a short while to get texture in the paint so your new paint has something to stick to.  Maybe start with 240.

I used paint stripper on the headlamp bucket on my Norton, and watched the Prince of Darkness Lucas medallion slowly dissolve in front of my eyes. It had stood fast for 56 years, and it took me about 56 seconds to destroy it. Lesson learned :-\
