CL360
« on: November 18, 2006, 08:52:12 AM »
Bought a CL360 off of ebay a few weeks back and have been in a struggle to find parts that I want, or just information period on it.

-my basic goal is to make it look like the new Triumph Scrambler.. ie sit a bit higher and have a 50/50 dual sport tires on it.  This may end up being completely un realistic,  but i am game for a go..  the bike is pretty clean, as a few minor issues,  that I should have fixed quickly..  then off to making lightly offroadable.  I don't plan on really doing much, other then occasional gravel.. but more for the looks and history of the bike..  so maybe a fork swap and longer rear springs..

Its simple to do. For engine work, what do you want to know? I dont know much specific about years, colours etc but I have a few CB360's

well..  I guess a good question is..  what is real world power out of these motors (ie not empirical power but felt power) and is there any cost effective way to bump power up, or should i just clean the bike up a bit more sell it or keep it as a mess around bike and buy something more powerful when I feel I am ready...  This is going to fill the starter bike role for me, which I think it is pretty much perfect with it's power and weight.  I had bought a cb650, but have given up on it for the time being since it is a complete basket case...

I like the mufflers..  I basically would like for it to look more like the Modern Classic Triumph Scrambler with a solid non-metallic flake paint on the tank an side covers and some dual-sport tires.. something like an 80/20 on/off road..  just something a little aggressive to fit the scrambler name.. and also change the bar to something with a bit less of a rise to give it a more streamlined look..  I am good with basic wrenching but fabrication (not rigging) is probably a bit beyond my current skills..  I have done some really basic welding in a class.  (arc and gas) and at some point would like to refine my skill(or lack there of  :D )  but probably not on this bike.. I mainly just want it for putting around..  (dreams of BMW R1200GS adventures fling mud in my dreams :-)  the ultimate bike for someone who is 6'5")  so any cheap/inexpensive or moderately priced worthwhile mods I would like to know more about..  I have found one company that makes an Electronic ignition conversion for it at around 150$  didn't know if they were worth it.. (yes, points scare me)  But at this point, any advice or direction pointing  would be nice, since I ave yet to find a cl360 supported site or forum.. (plus any forum posted to by a member with an awesome looking cafe  gl1000 is worth being a member of.. cause it looks badass!)

I'd stick with points myself, unless your going to go long distance. If you really want to replace them Ebay is the place, I've seen Dynas new for $99.00 buy it now.

Stick with he points. Its something new to learn. Bike will run with timing out, it just wont run right ;D
Are you looking to make something like this?
I had two sets of wheels but the ones with trail tyre were stolen.
Its got a 390 conversion I made and Yamaha RD350 carbs. Exhaust is CM400 two into one(cut and welded)with a Ford car expansion box as  silencer. Abunch of other stuff I had laying around got bolted on. Its street legal in UK. Did around 3,500 miles on it.

I have the earlier sibling to the 360, its the venerable 8) 350(which is only 325cc :() I have upsized the carbs, milled and ported the head, and installed a Newtronic ignition to replace the points. It had a little more low-mid grunt, but didn't start quite as easily as it would stock. All in all kind of a toss-up. Talking performance mods on a small vintage machine can be a little disheartening coming from a realist. I know a guy who spent many thousand dollars on his 350 racer and he said that it would top out at 110mph. The original Honda ad stated that it would hit 100mph.  ::)
I am going to reduce weight to earn the extra power, its probably the cheapest most effective way to increase your bikes performance. The bike doesn't need the starter motor or the center stand. These parts alove would probably make the bike more lively. I am looking for an aluminum sidestand to replace the steel one.

I've seen that Triumph and it's sweet. ;)

And what's the 74'CL450 K6 picture about? ??? I've got one of those but, not quite as nice. Motor's apart right now (that's the way I got it). Got to get it back together, after I get a few parts. :)
450's are pretty good runners on their own. What's the story on this one? ??? That one is Nice 8)

                                                      Later on, Bill :) ;)
