Some 400F follow up, the good and the bad news
« on: March 07, 2016, 05:46:07 AM »
After months of isolating a performance problem,  fuel (10 yrs old fuel) contamination forced my newly designed bucket handle in-tank filter, then nearly a complete unrelated component rebuild/restoration covering the whole circle. Now again 3rd time near the starting point, removed carbs to sync and find out why #2 is hot running/strange polar opposites of signs to go by, BAM found the problem, again #2 all the way disassembling gave so much trouble, emulsion tube is still in but coming out. I struggled with the main jet coming out, apparently from a trimmed oversized o-ring to ensure it' not going to leak that I put in last December, is why an inserted drill bit had to be placed in the main jet to prevent collapsing as the vice grips pulled it out, luckily I think it'll be ok for re-installation after reshaping it. But here's the good news after noticing I need to get the slides more close in the syncing, I pulled the sticky main out and wouldn't you just know it underneath that bugger not wedged in the jet hole, but just wobbling around with it's big toe in the door. A piece of plastic in the shape of a fragment, and the off white color of the old broken in-tank filter base. The bad news, some here might think it's great news, is a sudden and drastic change in health from very likely fungal (relapse cocci) and bacteria blood borne symptoms are going to push me to hurry and get that bike back together, otherwise who ends up with it, will have that in a package. I gotta plan for the next long trip, in the dirt. If this becomes the final wrap up, that's where I can be found. I kind of hope I'm wrong on this.
