Long filter housing or short?

I have both the long filter housing and the short one for my 1978 CB750k. Which would be better? My thinking is that the larger one would hold more oil. Any ideas on this?

Why would more oil be better?   
I dont recall Honda making different volume oil filter housings. . .
The F's had an additional plate for cooling purposes.

On my 1980 CB650C, there is a long housing with a spacer. I have an extra one. Just wondering if it would be good on the CB750k that i'm building. I know race auto engines have larger pans for more oil.

Should work just fine. Certainly wouldn't hurt. Same principal as the autos.

My K0 takes exactly 3Q of oil, unlike later models.  More oil is better, imho.  More additives to go around, bigger mass of oil to take away the heat.

I put the later oil tank on my unit as I liked the slimmer look of the side covers.Fortunately I had saved the original tank till about 3 years ago and unloaded it for sandcast money.Coupled with the large Lockhart cooler with the pipe fittings tapped into  the return circuit and a CR relief spring in the pump I have been very pleased with the lube system.

I'm leaving the short one on for engine painting, then putting the long one on. Thanks for all the info.... Doug
