Cb550 rims
« on: March 11, 2016, 10:42:06 PM »
Hi, i'm planning to change my stock 40 spoke 1.85 x 18 rear rim on my '77 cb550k to a 2.15 or 2.5 x 18 rim (i'm changing tires to 4.50 or 120 wide tires), would any 2.15 or 2.5, 40 spoke 18 iinch rim match & fit the stock spokes and hub of the cb550?

I've used 18" 2.15 Sun rims with stock spokes, but can't say for certain that "all 40 holes" would work.

Hi cal! what's the size of your tires? you mean, you're not using all 40 spokes for the stock hub? some holes are empty? :o

Ahh...haha. Roger that. Thanks bud! How does one measure the 2.15 inches on the rim, when i measured the width of a 2.15 rim, it was more than 4 inches, what exactly is the 2.15?

Look at the rim in "sectional" view. The interior shoulder that supports the tire bead should be 2.15"

Sun makes good rims but on bicycles several years ago they were trustworthy to be pretty true running without any wobbles to try to tune out, not true of all rims out there. The DID rim oisthe pricey alternative and the Excel aluminum rims are good choices to. Sun are typically more economical. Beware of counterfeit as the Chinese are counterfeiting all kinds of things and sometimes even reputable places get burned by them...most that know their business don't get stung by it.

Can always lace a 750 rear rim to the 550 hub. That's what i'm running.
