Topic: Vintage CB750 cam chain tensioner

I just got an e-mail from Vintage CB750.com regarding a cam chain tensioner unit I bought in November. They have issued a recall on this item. Supposedly, the rubber rollers can fail due to "prolonged exposure to oil". The company refunded to my paypal account and issued a $50 gift certificate. Good thing I did not install the motor yet. Nevertheless a big and expensive pain in the ass.

I already had my engine assembled and had logged about 1700 miles. My tensioner was on the verge of self destructing, fortunately it had not begun to shed. It appears as though the 2000 mile mark is where they begin to fall apart and are completely destroyed by 3000 miles.

Yeah, I know.  The part was bought and installed before the thread. The point of the post was that Vintage CB750 sort of made good on the deal with the refund and gift certificate. Still a huge pain in the tochas.

You did better than I did. All I got was a refund for the part. Still better than nothing. I was not happy about it either.
