Wheelie School
« on: November 14, 2006, 02:29:52 pm »
This is probably not new to most here, but I had never seen this before. I was watching ESPN Speed (first segment was riding in NYC, didn't look like fun with all the congestion, etc.), but the second segment was about learning to do wheelies. I was never interested, too cowardly, now too cowardly and too old.  ;D They had designed a wheelie bar that integrates with the engine and braking system. If you over rotate, the first incremental set cuts-out one cylinder to drop power, if you really over do it, it starts to actuate the rear brake. The settings are modifiable so they can be increased as you gain, er, I guess you would call it proficiency. ::) What will they think of next? ;)

Was this at the fabled Wheelie School at Mid-Ohio?

Hmmm.. I wonder.

My wife loves terrorizing her mother by telling her that's the next motorcycle training she wants to take!

I would go to wheelie school, but I would have to also go to fork seal school also. On second thought, I will be the guy trying his best to keep both wheels on the ground.  ;D

I'm guessing here, but I bet most people wreck when trying to wheelie from getting scared mid-wheelie and chopping the throttle?

I'm thinking they ought to add to the wheelie-tutorial system bike a super-duper front suspension, kinda like the motorcross bike style of suspension that can absorb killer hits and soak it right up in a controlled manner.

I did a wheelie once on accident and probably looked cool doing it, but I really don't think I want to do it again....

Got  a bit pissed at the wife boarding a ferry last summer and finally had to ride her bike on to the boat myself.
I suppose my anger was taken out on the throttle and the restored 350 wheelied just fine all the way to the front of the boat. ;D

They did make us wait at our destination, we were the last to unload ::) as he took down our licence plate numbers for future reference ;D

Don't need no stinkin school, just a bit of frustration will do it.

I did a wheelie once on accident and probably looked cool doing it, but I really don't think I want to do it again....

I did the same on my old 01' R6.  I was just blipping the throttle in 2nd gear and before I knew it I was 20-30yds into a wheelie.  I didn't even realize at first I was on one wheel.  Once I did I just smoothly rolled off the throttle and came down slow.  My buddy said it looked cool but I had a brown spot somewhere  :o  After that I'm really not interested in doing them, but they do look cool.

Now power wheelies are a different story.  Those are the best..
