Front fairing options
« on: November 11, 2006, 04:12:12 PM »
Were front fairings ever offered on a K8? The reason I ask is when I bought my bike it had a Vetter fairing on it that has the pin striping on it that matches the gas tanks. A friend of mine says fairings were available through Honda and Vetter was the manufacturer. I'm looking for someone that knows for sure. I was thinking about getting rid of the fairing because I like the looks of the bike without it, but if it is original equipment I may want to keep it.

Keep it on if you want, sell it if you don't - but stock it aint!

Someone correct me if im wrong please, but I'm sure fairings were not a factory option on the SOHC Fours - by Vetter or anyone else.

Craig Vetter made his fortune providng aftermarket fairings (and baggage) for these machines - among many others. Honda SOHC 750 owners were among their biggest markets (if not THE biggest), so its natural that he'd have tried to closely match his fairings paint schemes to Honda's stock colors - and since Honda only offered the K8 in two colors (Black with Pinstripe and Candy Brown) that wasnt a big trick for them.

in the 70's you could buy 750's with fairings on them, but I think they were dealer installed, an option or not I'm not sure.
I think Vetter produced the hondaline fairings etc which were options or standard equipment on some bikes, but not sure what bikes they came on.
So as far as I know if it's vetter it was aftermarket, if a hondaline it could have been factory/dealer option.

San francisco honda for a while had a 77 750k with a vetter fairing, saddle bags, and a kerker(?) 4 into one on it as a floor display. I think shortly after that they used one of those 6 cylender things with fairing, bags etc.

If it's in great condition and matches the bike's paint, put it in your basement and keep it.  I doubt you'd get much money for it frankly.  First thing most people do is take off the ol' Vetter.  Unless of course you want to paint it all black and then you'd resemble Darth Vetter (sorry, couldn't resist).
