Hey guys!
Ive run into a problem with my CB550 1977... Right before I put my bike away for the winter, I broke my kickstart lever.
It got over extended, and I quickly flipped it back up. I had to run-start it, and when I put the bike in neutral, it was a loud clicking/scraping-like sound coming from the engine. I could hear it was coming from the kickstart-area.
When I put the bike in gear, the sound stopped and the motor sounded like normal. But the bike back in neutral, the sound was back.
I put up a video of the sound here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BvJgxb4w_NcI took my engine out a while ago, to fix the problem... I had some leaks from the top end, so I started with that.
After my top end was out, I was afraid I had to take the lower case a part too, but I figured I could try and open the oil pan from underneath first!
To my relief, I saw the kickstart assembly clearly, and I also saw that I could take the whole thing a part from underneath. phhuuu....
After a while I started understanding how the whole kickstarter worked, and then I saw the problem. (I think)
Have a look: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0xD4NXKnxhgI saw the ratchet was knocking into ratchet guide plate. Looks like the nob on the ratchet is supposed to go on the left side of the ratchet guide plate nob?
Soo, my question is: It the guide plate bent? Or is it just popped out of place? I took the plate out, and saw some scratching on the outside. But this is really tough metal, and it seams unlikely that its bent?
Im hoping that it just popped out of place, and that I can simply put it back together...
If someone know anything about this, your help is much appreciated!
Thanks!
