Downloading Honda Technical Manual on Motorcycle Carburetion
« on: November 12, 2006, 06:35:12 AM »
Hi
Has anyone tried to download this?
"Warlock has sent this 1975 Honda Technical Manual on Motorcycle Carburetion, which is hosted at www.mctangen.dk/Honda_Technical.pdf The manual fills 11MB, but is well worth downloading for the excellent insight it gives in all matters regarding carburetion."
I have tried several times recently with no luck. The web site <www.mctangen.dk> is there. But I can not read Dutch so I do not know if there is a new link to this manual.

it's not Dutch but Danish. I'm pretty sure Paulages has that manual. Not sure if anyone has the pdf. though. If someone has it I'd love to have a copy.

One of the members has a couple of good docs on his site, including the one I liked to above...Here's the rest -

*  Owner's Manual, 1974 Honda CB550 - Scanned copy of an owner's manual from a 1974 Honda CB550.  Published 1973. This file is about 13 Megs.
          o Owner's Manual, PDF

    * CB500 Setup Procedures - A PDF that I found on the net some where that gives the instructions of uncrating your new CB500.
          o Setup Procedure, PDF

    * Fault Finding Flowchart - Motorcycle Charging Systems - Here is a flowchart to help in finding problems in your charging system.  Note - This is for Suzuki, but may be transferable to other manufacturers.
          o Flowchart, PDF

    * Honda Motorcycle Carburetion- Document explaining how carburetors work on older Honda motorcycles.  Published 1975. This file is about 12 Megs.
          o Carburetion, PDF

    * Honda CB500/CB550 Shop Manual- Honda Shop Manual for Honda CB500/CB550 SOHC/4 Motorcycle.  This file is close to 80 Megs and may take a long time to load.  Thank you to all the folks that had a hand in making and the providing of this copy of the shop manual.

Harry from Denmark set this up when he was a Moderator. Unfortunately he changed jobs and the files were deleted on the host.

I'll ask him where they are now and change the links.

Thanks for reporting this.

Downloaded everything!!  ;D  I already had the shop manual, but you never know when you might have to reprint a page, and I sure wish I'd had that carb manual when I was rebuilding and tuning my carbs. But I'm sure I'll make good use of it when I get my 550/650 hybrid to the point of jetting...

Here's a couple more manual sites -

The sites are in Italian, but most of the manuals are in English...

Anyone have a GOOD copy of the 500/550 parts manual?  All of the ones I have found online so far are lacking in resolution.  :-[

Also, here's an article to go along with that carb manual (if you haven't already gotten it):

Hi Glenn
Having downloaded the CB750 shop manual from the site recently. And downloaded the carb. manual from James's site today. Over a dial up connection no less. I think that being able to locate manuals on this site is an area that needs some improvement.

yes - bigger the file, the better. seems like the ones at Honda4Fun are all chopped up into smaller files and the resolution is not very good. I have downloaded like 5? versions now, from there and elsewhere . . .one is even 22mb (a honda4fun manual) but it still isn't very sharp. I mean, they are usable   . . but I was just wondering if a better version was floating around where your could really make out the smaller parts and what not?  :-\

I have the 300Mb version of the 550 manual which was sent to me on CD by Tintin.

I don't know whether it's available online but I will go and check.

Now THAT sounds like what I'm talking about! .  . . .  if its not anywhere online, maybe you or someone else could e-mail it to me? (trouble is, many e-mails cap the file size on any uploads - I own my own (actually, many) domain names so I don't have any problem with that. . . . )

eBay Store: Automotive-Books-and-Manuals

browse here (my eBay store with motorcycle magazines) and if there's anything that floats yer boat, maybe a store credit or I could scan some stuff, for your troubles?  ::)  ***holds out cardboard sign: WILL WORK FOR HONDA STUFF***

I agree that the Honda manual from that Italian site is a little hard on the eyes. The one Glenn points to below is much better IMO.

There is this manual on the sohc4 website:

http://www.sohc4.us/index.php?option=com_remository&Itemid=80&func=fileinfo&id=7

This is the 1977 version of the manual, so may be missing the later supplement.  Otherwise, the scan is good and the pages print clearly.  I cannot recall where I found this, but it is only 79MB, so it isn't the TinTin file.

Kewl - I didn't know of that vault, there.  . .he he . . all sorts of stuff to find on this site!

I have originals of both a 1973 CB500 and 1978 CB550 owners manuals I will have to scan-n-submit. They do come in handy - I went over the cold start procedures the other day and it really works well. . .

OK - that manual in the repository is one I already have, its a good shop manual - I use it all the time!

What I (still) need is the PARTS Manual - ideally one from the whole range of the CB500 - CB550. Even the best one on Honda 4Fun is only so-so - you really can't make out the smallest parts very well.  :(

What I did was to go to the Fiche and print out the .GIF images and the HTML page they correspond to. Not as good as a real paper scanned manual, but better than nothing...   ::)

Having a spot of trouble with the Carb manual. I can download the manual but in locked form so I can't print etc. What's the work around? I've been here...

and I tried this but whilst the link works, the download button doesn't...

Who needs a carb manual?  Just do what I did.  Make three trips to the dealer for jets.  Finally get it close, then buy new rubber intakes (if your old one's are bad you'll get a totally different tune).  Now go back to the dealer and buy some more jets cause your old ones are way too rich now.  Do this three or four times, get tired of screwing with it and officially name your carbs as 'close enough'.

The various manuals which are on the SOHC/4 website have been moved to the new web site:

The Tech Library contains some general manuals and articles including a whole list of Honda Service Bulletins.

The CB500 section has a setup guide, parts guide, and service manual

For the CB750, I have mostly just articles and wiring diagrams, but I'm working on getting service and owners manuals back online.

There is a service and an owners manual up for the CB550.

And the CB650 section has two owners manuals.

There is more to come as I get the time to get it online.
