Ja en van harte ;). Although my CB500 was first registered february 1977, I believe it is safe to assume it was assembled in 1976, so 40 years old and... still going strong.

guys, thanks for the good wishes and compliments. i'm sure she'll be delighted when i convey the messegas to her.

she had gotten a little bit out of shape when i took her home with me a few years ago. but i sent her to the gym and she is now fitter then ever.

looks like we have a lot of nice 40 year olds on this forum!
and yes, she is tax free  now. i suppose that puts her in the same leage as senior citizens who get free public transport in some countries ;)

What is this "tax free"?
In the Netherlands when your motor (cars included) is over 40 years old it is free of roadtax. It used to be 25 years, but they changed it so after 12 years taxfree, I have to pay a little roadtax again. I don't mind. In my opinion everyone that uses the road should pay. Best however IMO if roadtax was in the literprice of gasoline so he who uses most, pays most. Excellent way to get rid of ridiculous gas guzzlers, SUVs and the like.

Here in the states, the gasoline price includes tax for the roads.
You still have to have annual registration?

In TX, if a bike is over 25, it can be registered as an antique for $60 and is good for 5 years.  I do this on all my bikes that are roadworthy.

I do mind, I've got 5 bikes in that catagory, so now I pay the (reduced ) tax fee for four of them , and the full rate for the bike I use through winter, as I'm not automobilised.
That's enough money to buy several tyres, or other parts needed.

i like the idea of charging road tax through fuel. seems to be a fair approach.
of course then the question is how to deal with electric vehicles? i guess it's fine to subsidise them for some time but eventually they have to pay towards maintenance of the road network.

Fuel including roadtax, excellent idea IF combined with fuel prices like in the US of A, let's say our litreprice for a gallon.

it is, apart from a second (OEM) brake disc, koni shocks and some interiors of the engine. basically, i did some mild performance upgrades to the topend during a rebuild.
