78 CB750K Tarozzi rear set - Brake switch question
« on: March 22, 2016, 07:55:40 AM »
Hey Guys,  I have a 1978 CB750K (drum brake rear) that I just picked up all the parts from Cognito Moto to do my rear sets. All the parts are from Tarozzi and are excellent quality. The only thing I'm wondering is about the Rear brake light switch (little spring). Normally (on my bike anyway) it attaches to a little loop/hole on the actual brake pedal itself. With the rearsets that pedal will obviously be gone.
I wanted to ask for those who have converted over to rear sets on their drum brake, how did you end up rigging up the rear brake light switch to pull when you actuate the rear brake lever? I spoke with Devin at length on this over the weekend and I saw there was a brake lever/spline that had a tab welded on it. The tab had a hole which appears to be for this purpose but I also found out that lever is 18mm ( for the earlier cb750K's) and my 78 has a 16mm spline/lever so the one with the tab would not work (i don't know if that makes sense).

I welded a tab on to the existing brake  bell crank and put the connecting rod from the rear set to that so actuates the light switch

Thanks, I see it better in that second picture. You run it down in the back and attach somehow..... I'll have to do some fiddling around to find a spot that has enough travel when I apply to the brake to illumnate the tailight. Thanks again,

Using all the original actuating hardware, just cut off the original pedal, welded a tab onto the bellcrank, and attached to rearset.

In retrospect, would have made the tab shorter, still enough leverage to actuate the brake and switch. Good luck!

Mine came with this silver piece to turn the spline and it had a extension off the front. The spring hooks up under the front hole. Looks a little cramped but works well.

THanks for the photos, That's what I thought mine was supposed to have too... Mine that came only has the part that attaches to the actual linkage up top.... I was thinking I need that lower "loop/hole" to attach the spring to. I read somewhere and Devin at Cognito let me know that the 77-78 K's have a smaller Spline so the one in your photo will not fit? But then that leaves me with the whole issue of where to attach the spring for my brake light switch.... hmmm

Do you happen to remember, I know this is a long shot if your Spline ( the part that turns and pushes the brake rod) is 18mm or 16mm ?

Sorry i know this is kind of a weird thread, I'm just trying to figure this out. I appreciate the help guys. Thanks.

Not sure what size it is, whatever came on the '76's I guess. I'm out of the house now but I'll try to measure it when I get home and get back to you.
You could prob weld a flat piece of stock onto the front, even jb weld since there isn't much tension on that spring. Shouldn't be too difficult at all
