Help needed..
« on: March 23, 2016, 12:22:05 PM »
Hello all, I have started a CB400F project and need a quick easy question answering.. How far apart are the frame spars under the rear end seat unit? Mine is off being blasted so I can't measure it.. Could some kind person whip their seat off and measure the outside distance for me please? Thanks in advance  ::)

The measurement varies depending on where you want the measurement taken. At the turn signal mount point, which is the very rear of the seat/fender subframe, the number is 174mm between the insides of the mounts. About 75mm forward of the turn signal mounts on the round tubes the number is 205mm between the outsides of the tubes.

I think my subframe is as it came from Honda and is where I got these numbers but you never know and any bend in the tubes will skew the measurements. How accurate do you want the numbers?

I measured about 210mm at the shock mounts on a '77 frame:
