Goldwing electrical blue's
« on: November 09, 2006, 01:19:34 PM »
Hey all,
not having fun with this. My idiot r red tail light on the dash is on and I only changed out the rear tail light. 2 bolts and 3 wires. I didn't think I could mess too much up :)
Some one has been in here before.
ok, a pic is worth a thousand words :)
the first one is an overview.
second is where the yellow wire connects to the G/Y wire from the top plug at the reserve, it goes over to the rear brake switch.
3rd pic is the rear section under the seat. The yellow wire from the left is the one from the G/Y from up by the reserve plug. The yellow wire on the right connected to the plug and going into the harness. I get voltage at the connector end of the yellow when the key is on. I should only get voltage when the brake's are activated. I pulled the second fuse out and no voltage at the yellow wire and brake light working great. But with the 5A fuse pulled I have no tail light and the red idiot light is out also.

Thank's

I'll Send you a pic after work today.
It is a 75 Wing and picked it up for a song and dance. It is the #242 off the line so it is a pretty low # also. It just turned 70,000 last night riding to my Rusted Nuts Mototrcycle meeting.
I just pick up a 70 complete with title. for a radian swing arm and a C note.

Sounds interesting, dont forget i am in UK so there is a time difference and i work nights so there is a reality difference.
BE AWARE the early wings DID NOT have a greae nipple on the top of the swing are just in front of the final drive so you need to pull the drive REGULARLY to grease the sliding joint between the shaft and final drive!

Thank's,
I did observe that when installing the driveshaft after it exploded six months after I got it. The PO never put the rubber seal back in between the final drive and swing arm and the ones I pulled ion the yard where clean like the day they where installed. Mine is all crappy and starting to pit. I will pick up another swing arm sometime to switch it out with one with a grease nipple.

I have a 74'  GL1200A with a light on the cluster for the lights.  The only time I have ever seen it come on is when all the dust and corrosion was enough to cause resitance on the hot-side or bad ground.  I DC'd the entire rear and cleaned everything, of note one thing i found was the resistance generated enough heat to melt the contacts in the bulb receptacles which I had to clean and 'tin' for a good contact.

I tried comparing my wires to your pics today but I am presuming you dont have a full dress, I can try posting pics of my wire config if it will help.

We found out about the grease when, back in 75, we had a 'Wing as a shop hack (45,000 miles in 3 years!)  sliding joint only lasted 10,000 and Honda said no warantee cos it needed greasing EVERY service---shame it wasny in the service book! only other problem was when rear wheel bearings got play in them at 30,000 and wrecked the final drive---no teeth left and a lovely shade of gold on the overheated case!
Those two problems apart all we ever did was put a rear tyre on every 5,000 and service it!
