Those gauges are unbelievable! I'm sure it's been said on here, but does Marcel reuse the old glass, or use something better than original that maybe has some uv protection for the faces?

His full rebuild service uses new outer housings, lenses, faces and crimp rings IINM. Not sure about the UV protection thing, but the new lenses sure look great! I just rebuilt my K3 gauges using new lenses and facing last night, my 4th set so far and Marcel's stuff is top notch 8)

Not the best pic, but I think they came out good..

Every set of gauges out of his shop that I've seen looks pretty spectacular.

Ok ok....enough free advertising for Marcell!

I did that for a joke, since Nils was insisting on an update.

I have no plans for a speedo on the Park Racer!  Prolly tach only, just as it came to me.

Ok, back to business. I was out of town last week, so not much has gotten done.

However, I did go shopping for engine paint sine member Riverman said he HATES the New Ford Gray color!

Don mentioned O'Reilly's, but the only had Duplicolor "Cast Coat Iron", what do you guys think of Duplicolor?

The color is what I originally had in mind, dont want stock, this shade will provide sharp contrast next to the polished covers.

Now I'm not going to pull the motor just for paint at this point but I brought the bike to my buddy's shop for a leak down test.

For those that are not aware, a leakdown test will tell you more than a  compression check.

Basically, the cylinder is put at TDC on the compression
stroke (valves closed and piston at top), then pressurize the cylinder to 100psi. A gauge on the tester that will tell you what the cylinder is holding after 10 min.

My motor failed miserably!  I dont have the numbers in front of me but #3 was at 50%  [Ideally, you want 90%].

So the top end came off, it's nice having the frame kit!  So now, I'm in "machine shop jail", getting a valve job and I'll find out tomorrow if the jugs will be within spec after a precision hone.
I'm hoping to hone and rering, but if I'm not lucky, it will be getting the ebay $130 Big bore kit!

The tensioner was quite worn, I have a few spare, and on a good note, the cam and chain look fine.

I used Cast Coat Aluminum on the non-Nils engine parts.  I've actually painted a few non-engine parts with it as well.  I think it looks great...

Can't help you on that one...  I cleaned and degreased the best I could for not pulling the case apart.  The paint is supposed to be good up to 500 degrees...

Looks good.  It's always tough to see how the color looks in different light.

Both of these motors are VHT Cast Iron

The following are the same paint and motor, showing how ambient lighting and exposure settings make them appear very different in photos

So you're not pulling the engine?  Are you going to repaint it in the frame?  The Duplicolor gray looks good to me.  I'm painting my cases a similar gun metal gray, hopefully on Saturday.

It's your time & money, Stev-o but I agree with Don.  Since you have a frame kit and already have the top off, it's much less work to pull the engine and paint it out of the frame than it would be to mask off everything else on the bike to paint it in the frame.

I was initially thrown off when Jeffro posted an engine being painted, and thought it was your post.

That said, now's the time if you are going to do it.  Might as well with the engine this far disassembled.

The weekly update is no update!

I'm still in "machine shop jail" but last word from the shop was he thought the cylinders would hone out and be within spec.
I was happy to hear it but surprised - I was expecting the worst.

Boring would be $200 plus the cost of a piston kit [$400?], he's a Wiseco dealer and talked me into Wisecos on both my Kawasaki rebuilds [no regrets]

I really had hoped it would be running by now. We're into boating season and the wifey insists on being out on the water rather than having me in the garage!

My plan for this weekend:  Beer, boating, biking & BBQ, not necessarily in that order!
