The weekly update is no update!

I'm still in "machine shop jail" but last word from the shop was he thought the cylinders would hone out and be within spec.
I was happy to hear it but surprised - I was expecting the worst.

Boring would be $200 plus the cost of a piston kit [$400?], he's a Wiseco dealer and talked me into Wisecos on both my Kawasaki rebuilds [no regrets]

I really had hoped it would be running by now. We're into boating season and the wifey insists on being out on the water rather than having me in the garage!

My plan for this weekend:  Beer, boating, biking & BBQ, not necessarily in that order!

I had the unexpected bore and new piston expense with my engine.  Kinda glad I did.  Learned a lot about a CB750 engine in the process.

Stay dry this weekend, unless you plan on jumping in the lake.

Stev-o,your machinist said no problem honing  :) the cylinders, what bore are they now?

Stock.

I have a feeling the hot motor was pulled out of the bike and this tired motor put if when the bike was sold [to the flipper I bought it from]

Hard to know since the title doesn't include the original engine serial number.

But the engine VIN is a K2, I failed to mention that (frame is K3)

I do plan in jumping in the lake!

The rain just started and will will continue into tomorrow.   Looks good on Saturday for a ride in the morning and boating in the afternoon!

I'm at Banner Hospital in PHX until mid week. Other half on dialysis from Renal failure. Still very ill. I could get into more detail but don't want to hack this thread more than I have already. Let's just say poor medical decisions by the Doctor.

No bike, just prayers this trip.

Back to our regular scheduled program.  ;)

Hey guys....the weekly update is good news/bad news.

Good:  I have a legally registered bike that I could ride!

Bad:  I'm still in "machine shop jail", so the bike is not ridable.

However, I did speak with the machinist today, and he said the valve job should be done in a day or two [which means 3 or 5!].  And he confirmed that the cylinders are within spec, so it's a hone and re-ring.

So, with a little luck, I should have the parts back in a week and start reassembly.

With boating season here, I didnt mind a little break. But with all the rain here lately, the lakes are flooded and boating is banned! WTF?!!

Anyone ran into trouble with police having a bike registered in VT while living in another state?  HOPEFULLY, you are lucky enough to not be pulled over.  But, many states have laws that if you have established residence your vehicle must be registered and licensed in that state within a month or 6 weeks of the move.  Just didn't know how an out of state plated bike would fair with in-state drivers license...

I have had six different Vermont Method of registration bikes here in Louisiana and never had a problem. I usually ride on the green plate for a year to get back some of my value before getting the bike registered,  plated and titled here in Louisiana.

So no, never been a problem.

Same here.  I rode on the Vermont plates for about 2 months before I finally had the time/opportunity to go pick up the Georgia plates.  Never had an issue and even had a cop ask me about it while I was showing him the plates.  He just said, "Cool...I think I'm gonna have to try that."

That's great you've got the VT. plate Stev-o  :) I'll be doing the same thing for a bike I got a great deal on a while back.
I hope you keep the speedo in a 'reasonable zone' when you finally get this bike inside on those small park roads :o  We wouldn't want the cops chasing you all over the park to try to catch 'that crazy guy from VT.'  ::)  ;D  LOL

Hey Guys....quick update: I am out of  "Machine shop jail"!

Guess it's been about a month, but the machinist called me last week and said my parts are ready!   So, I had the cylinders honed, valves and seats ground and new guides installed. He also ordered rings for me.
I had everything bead blasted, parts look great!

Jugs honed...

rebuilt head...

I then taped em up and painted em....

And now ready for install...

I now realize I was a little bummed out that this bike needed to be torn down and given the valve job.   I've revived quite a few CB's and I guess just expected this to be easily brought back to like [unlike the K7 that had a broken cam!].

During the time the parts were at the machine shop, I didnt want to work on any bikes, just wanted to ride. However, I did work on the boat, got it all cleaned up and installed a new Kenwood head unit and wired remote  [old system just died over the winter].

With hot summer temps here, I prefer to be on the boat anyway, except for a couple "Happy Hour" rides thrown in.

Got a four day Holiday weekend coming up and have family coming to visit. Our plan is Beer, Boating & BBQ, so doubt any motor rebuilding will be happening this week.  No need to rush it...

It's "Cast Coat Iron".  Since the bike is not stock, I did not want the stock engine color.

Agreed, I like it better too.  And yes, failed to mention that, the cases have been repainted but all the covers remain polished.

Wrong bottle, David. Heineken doesn't have an embossed surface. Looks like a trendy, hipster micro-brew of some sort. After all, Stev-O stays ahead of fashion trends. Lead, never follow is his mantra.

Sorry to buck your logic Cal, but it was a Heineken.  No trend, hipster, micro brews in my beer fridg, the wifey bought the "green beer" and that's what I'll drink! If it's cold, I'll drink it, my latest fav is Modelo...

Here's a shot of the drink fridg right now, we're pretty stocked up for the weekend....

Mostly cans as they will be going in the boat this weekend. Couple of nice Italian bottles of vino for the dinner party tomorrow night [w/Blackened Tilapia] and a bottle of Jack!
