Bike is not done yet!  Plus, I'm not really a "show guy", rather be out riding like we did two years ago.

Thanks John, I love the exhaust too!  No front fender planned, just the Tarozzi fork brace.

I'll dig the Wing emblems out and do a mock up.

Thanks dhall. Has taken a lot longer than expected, but I stepped away from it for most of the summer.  Excited to get it on the road...

Sometimes it's the little things that pleases you on a project.

I was happy to have a working rear brake light after installing this switch.

Also installed a new gas cap and used lock assembly I found on the shelf.

This brings up a question:  What do you suggest I do to the paint edge on the gas filler neck?  I've read some guys put a coat of clear nail polish lacquer on it? [I just so happen to have a bottle!]

I was also happy to find this in the mail today after not being able to find one locally.  Now I can "plumb" the fuel lines.

Yup. Everything comes together, one piece at a time.

Nail polish goes with red shoes too!  ;D

Rearsets look great. Next project I'll send my hardware down to Tucson.  ;)

Lot of progress you've made there mate, the paint looks superb! I love this part of putting a bike together, most of the hard work (and expense) is over with and you can concentrate on those small refinements that pull it all together. Great stuff, looking forward to the first ride report! :)

Yes, Nils' work is top notch.  Looking at that closeup, I will now have to polish the hardware that the rear set is mounted up with!

Stev-o,
I would trim that sharp paint edge(on your tank filler neck) back a little where it flares-out toward the top(that 'lip') w/ a sharp safety razor and carefully 'feather'/taper it w/ an upward motion..so it's as close to the steel as you can get it.A 'labor of love' which could take some time w/ good light.I wouldn't use that clear fingernail stuff because it'll fracture later and look tacky.

You could try asking the man who painted it and see what he says about doing what i suggested.

I have heard of guys using super glue where the paint ends and the steel is exposed. Just don't get it where the gasket/seal touches the tank. But I have never seen it in person.

Fuel proof epoxy is recommended to seal the neck to paint so that fuel cannot get under the paint and ruin your paint work.

You shouldn't need to do anything if the painter shot clear coat over the paint, up to the taped off edge. Is that edge discernible and "square" with your fingernail? That would be the only reason I'd tinker with it.

He did shoot clear over it and it is discernible with a fingernail.

I'm not super concerned as I am always very careful when fueling and typically never spill a drop.

Before final assembly, I'd suggest adding a protective layer using Maguier's gold carnuba wax, this stuff is on a whole different level.

If you were to mask a 1/16" above and below the paint edge on the filler neck and swipe a thin amount of JB Weld over the paint line and then immediately remove the tape before it dries, you will have a permanent seal.  The fumes will never get under that edge.  I've done that many, many times with great success.

Yes, these are what I am considering mounting on the tank. Overall they are in good shape, I'd polish a little before mounting.
I'm a little gunshy on mounting them on fresh paint though.

Thanks for the suggestion, I did this and it was pretty basic. I'm looking at it as cheap insurance that I hope I'll never need.

So, once the JB Weld was thoroughly dry, I replaced the gas cap and lock, ran the fuel lines, installed the tank and seat.

After a few bumps to the starter, she roared to life! I could not resist to take her for the first ride since I bought it, about 3 years ago!   She did not run great but was able to take me around the block. There is nothing that can make you happier that a running engine after a rebuild.

I bought these carbs from BranDen, they are set up for a stock bike, so obviously I need to do some jetting now.  Here is how she sits...

About this time, I was interrupted with a delivery to my house....

I helped my buddy buy this '68 Corvette for the classic car collection he is putting together.  He is out of town so I was more that willing to accept delivery and give it multiple test rides!  It runs fantastic, needs no jetting so it was a no-brainer on which one to take out!!

Really nice job on the bike, Stev-o.  She's a beauty!

That Vette is hideous.  If I were you, I'd be ashamed to have it at my house.  Because I'm such a swell guy, I'll be glad to come bring it back to my house.  I'll hide it inside a garage so nobody has to see that ugly thing. :)
