Mechanic in Atlanta
« on: November 13, 2006, 06:20:28 AM »
I just purchased a '78 CB750 K8.  I was wondering if someone could recommend a Mechanic in Atlanta.  I live in the Buckhead area and my father and brother (people who would give me a ride home) live on the East side of town.  Thanks

...hey Jeb, u are your own best mechanic!   :o  There isn't much difficult about wrenching on these bike, if you have a manual thats all you need.  I read u'r other post on the engine noise.  When I got my first 750 I was paranoid about the "rattle" at idle.  Its probably just clutch rattle...when the bike is idling, get u'r ear down around the right side where the clutch is, and see if the rattle is coming from there.  If you adjusted the timing chain tensioner, then u'r good.  The process is the same for the 69-78 bikes.  A carb sync is always a good thing to do also, so buy u'r self a sync gauge, or find someone in Hotlanta thats got one.  Good luck, and keep the questions coming...

Think of all the tools you could have with the money you were going to spend on a mechanic... ;D

All very true points but I already have enough tools to screw things up.  Replacing things I am okay.  Rebuilding things like brake cylinders, calipers, and carbs I can do.  Adjusting brakes, timing, points (maybe), not bad but balancing carbs (especially 4) and valves I am hopeless - electronic stuff too.  By the way are the front blinker bulbs suppose to stay on - not flashing but on - when the bike is running?

Yup. They are double filiment bulbs in front (running lights and turn sig.). Rears are single filiment(turn sig. only).

WWWWWelcomeeeeeeeeeee!

If things get real bad I am in Birmingham and I can help next time I am in the area. But I do not have the sacred scrolls for the 77' and 78' models!!
But I do know a guy......
Really, it sounds like you have all the ability I have plus some and I got my 72' Back on the street with my own two hands (and this board).
Youse do got 'em "special" carburetors. The 78s( yes you have been deemed the 78s) should be able to steer you right.
