An Angry CB350F Build
« on: March 29, 2016, 11:11:09 AM »
I'm a pissed off person, so I have decided to use that as fuel to finish my CB350F project. I don't really have a direction, I make it up as I go, some times I lose steam, need to reevaluate every once in a while; I made a post on here about it, I got a lot of flack for it. Just because my process is different than yours doesn't make you any better than me. Several people of this forum flat out pissed me off, luckily anger is something I can control and use as temporary momentum.

Without further ado, the into to my project. I have a '72 CB350F with an over bored 400F engine, a 750 mishmash front end, a lot of parts from eBay and 4into1. Like I said, I make things up as I go, but as it stands I am building a cafe, rat, brat, frankensteined, hybrid. I am restoring it part by part, replacing many others, the bike was in rough condition, but I got a really good deal on it, and a bunch of extra parts, a few of which have really saved my dumb ass. By the time I finish I'll have about $2000 into it including the cost of the bike. If I clean up some of the extra parts I have, I can probably make a couple hundred back.

Carbs after cleaning and  kind of what they looked like before cleaning (spares); the engine was a lot dirtier than that (also a spare, the 350F engine that was originally in it, dead cam tensioner...need I say more); and the tank before stripping it, the previous owner(s) dented the tank pretty bad near the front, I found about a solid inch of body filler there, and pretty much everywhere else, took a long time to strip it down to bare metal...but I'm glad I did, the bare metal gives it an aggressive look it didn't have before.

Big ass dent where body filler was caked on. Apparently these clip on used to be some of the best on the market back in the day. Next time I get back to the shop I am going to rip out the front end, paint everything (triple trees, forks, wheels, clip ons), grease the all balls in the stem, shorten the forks quite a bit and make a mounting plate for the instruments. After that I can start putting it back together  ;D

You have an odd attitude. You posted for "input" then rebuke those who gave you the benefit of experience, encouraging you to finish the bike. Now, you divulge that you got your feelings hurt by open and candid replies.

Enjoy your bike build. The "Pissed Off" thread is that way ->>>>> and they won't take kindly to your attitude either.

"Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of it's victim may be the most oppressive. It may be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated, but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience." - C.S. Yeah, kind of a strange way to start a build with regard to your demeanor.  Anywho, good luck with the build.

Having a end goal/design in mind will help you focus your efforts to finish in less time.

Just some friendly advice.  Good luck with the build.

Also, be conscious of the effects of shortening your fork tubes.  If you shorten the tubes, but do not adjust the springs, you may very well end up oversprung with a very harsh ride, that lacks compliance and doesn't track turns well.
