Caliper bracket bolt removal?
« on: April 01, 2016, 06:13:14 AM »
Hello everybody,

Just a quick introduction because this is my first post. Last month I bought CB750 k5. Well it was documented 75, but after research I found out that it has k3 engine, k2 frame and those early forks (69-72?). Now I`m rebuilding the forks and polishing some aluminum parts. My question is: Is it possible to remove the bolt/pin in the caliper bracket? It would be easier to polish if I could have two separate pieces. I tried to tap it out after soaking it in WD-40. No success. Won`t even budge. Any tips?

Bolt is number 14:

I soaked mine a bit with some PB Blaster and it came out fine.

Definitely try and get it out and lube it on installation as that joint is critical for its function.

This would be my guess, make sure that cotter pin is out.

Also, do NOT break #4.

Had to use a hydraulic press to get mine out - it was seriously stuck and using a bigger hammer would just have damaged the assembly. Luckily I had access to one at work.

The pin (14) should be a press fit into bracket 4 so there is no movement between them, and the arm (12) moves on the pin. What happens is that the pin rusts solidly to the arm and the movement happens between the pin and bracket 4, buggering up the bracket.
71 or thereabouts 750 K1 - this one should have been put down

Thank you all for replies. Yes, I removed the pin. I already hammered it so hard that I`m affraid that next step might be damaged part. Hydraulic press would be nice. Will try to heat it up.

Hard to beat a good heat gun and PB blaster.  HEAT.
Yep, I'm the kid that figured out how to put things back together...eventually.
