If it runs at 3k, then you've got spark. Idle issue sounds like it will be carbs at this point, though it's important to know what your compression is across all 4.
Since spark is gone after checking points, are condensers good? No oil or grease on points? Have you filed them down so there's good metal-metal contact? Is your static timing set properly?
Also, points shouldn't be "open" when on the "F." They should be closed and the F is when the electricity travels through them. If they're open, that's why your idle has died. Not sure what you mean when you say "open."
Last obvious point - battery charged?
