Topic: Kick start won't engage

What diagnosis would you give for a kick start to not engage. At it's best, it will engage about half the way down. I've been able to kick start from this position. Otherwise, there is a ratcheting sound, but it won't bite. I hope I'm not missing some gear teeth or anything. I'm not clear on how it works, so I always go to the worst case scenario.

while im still assembling mine up, i was following http://hondacb550f.blogspot.com/2010/05/important-info-when-working-on-cb550.html

check the spring on the outside to see if its in the correct spots, you can use a ZIP TIE to help you pull it back and install it correctly, at least thats what i did. (assuming i did it correctly  )
