Seat Help
« on: April 13, 2016, 03:48:32 PM »
So I have done numerous searches and have not been able to come to a conclusion.

I want to convert my seat to a brat style seat. I am planning on buying a steel loop, weld it on, and then purchase a brat seat from DimeCityCycles.

My question is do I need a seat pan for stability? DCC is also selling a seal pan for what I want to do. Do people just bolt their seat to the frame without a pan or is it necessary?

I have attached several pictures to show what I want the end product to look like. From the pictures, it doesn't look like people are using a seat pan and that they're just putting the seat directly onto the frame. And if someone answered this already somewhere, I am sorry.

The first three bikes are pics of show bikes - if they were to sit on it the loop/seat would hit the tire.  Looks cool but is not functional.

That would depend if they limited travel on what appears to be a longer travel shock. A shortened travel shock is still more comfy than a rigid....

All good feedback.  The brat thing is so passé and damn uncomfortable too.

Quite agree. When they first started appearing I used to like the look of 'em, now I just walk on as I've seen too many. Although maybe I'm just getting old and appreciate a comfortable seat and decent suspension!

I actually really like the stock look but the main reason why I want a lower profile brat seat is because of my height. Right now I am tippy toeing at a stop and even though I barely put down both feet, I would still like the feeling of being able to do it if I had wanted to. Plus, backing the bike out isn't easy at all on just the toes.

All those seat shown are custom to the bike. What I didn't like about the dcc seat is that it didn't cover the gas tank tab. If that's what it's called.

Ended up making my own

Take a look at Sean's bike in this thread, about halfway down. Good solution, keeps the stock look.

No need to put both feet down, keep your right foot on the peg
