Fuses

Hey all, I've been trying to get my 550 up and running and was trying to diagnose a headlight issue. The headlight doesn't come on when the key is in the on position. I began to look at the fuses and 2 of the the 3 are toast. I've got some on order, but wanted to see if automotive fuses can be used from Napa? Also need a flasher relay which I've searched and seems like a relay from auto parts store is acceptable. Any help appreciated.

I've bought fuses at an auto parts store but they need to be the correct length.

Our bikes take a slight shorter length than most commonly used auto fuses.

While you are at it, clean the fuse holder clips with some emery cloth.

Our bikes use the 1" fuses, while most auto parts stores sell 1.25" fuses (ask me how I figured this out  ::) )

Easiest thing to do is buy a modern blade fuse panel from Hondman. It's plug and play and takes the hassle out of the 40 year old fuse box.

Or roll your own fuse block! More fun that way.

yes thek the old fuse holder..for korosion and heat damage.....often you are better vith a nev blade fuse type .
.you can reuse the viring ,,just solder,,or screv the vires on the nev fuseblock..drill a new hole in the bike ,,,reuse the one old hole..and bolt it on..

What all does the main fuse supply power to? Haven't had a chance to chase wires on the wiring diagram. Just wondering if the bike would run without it.

No but you just clip off the pigtail from the old fuse box and attach them to the new fuse box

Not the high current side of the starter. The coil that operates the starter solenoid is powered from the main fuse.
