Clutch Question
« on: April 14, 2016, 09:48:36 PM »
Rebuilding a 1975 Honda CB750F.  Clutch friction plate thickness measured 0.135 inches and the steel plates measured 0.075 inches.  Springs measured 1.275-1.280 inches.  Should I replace these items?  Any recommendations on a type of friction plate to use would be appreciated.

Barnett is pretty much the leader in strong discs and springs.

I would say you are well within tolerance, so I would do nothing and reuse. Sometimes, I replace the springs for good measure as it's usually the springs that wear in my experience, not the discs.

Your discs and springs measure in the upper end of specs. With as much miles as you have on that bike (I believe it's around 20K, right?), it's likely they may have been replaced previously. And you've noticed zero issues with slipping or any other transmission problems...

I haven't removed a CB750 clutch hub before, but with other Hondas, the hub will only fit one way (maybe two ways). If it's incorrectly installed, it will look right, but it's not. Make sure the hub is put back on correctly.

Reuse!

I'd put it together and see how it does first.
As of today 3/13/2012 my original owner 75 CB750F has made it through 3 wives, er EX-wives. Free at last.  ;-)
