Small amount of progress this weekend.  I had a wedding to attend, and my car was totaled from a rear-ender, so I only got a couple hours to work on things.

Speedo cut and welded!  I tried to go as minimal with the bracket as I could and I think it turned out pretty OK.  My welding was even halfway decent on this thing.  Corner welding is the hardest for me so I'm pretty happy with the way it turned out.

And a couple with the speedo in.

I drilled a small hole for the speedo wires to route through, and they come right down by the handlebar switches.  Should be pretty clean once I get everything wired, and bundled up.  I'll be getting some sort of grommet to put in that hole when all is said and done of course.

Also just started running the control wires from M-Unit to front controls, and the ricks mounted up.

Ok, that's it for now!

I'd encourage you to abide the stock Honda wire colors. It will make troubleshooting for you and any future owner, much, much easier.  :-\

Ok, well I'm done with Google Photos, I thought I found a setting that would keep this from happening, but clearly not.  I just uploaded my latest round of photos to flickr and re-posted.  I'll go do the older posts later when I have time.

Sorry again, pain in the ass.

I'd take y'alls advice here if I hadn't already bought wire that followed the M-* wiring color scheme.  I'm going to update the wiring diagram I attached to this thread and make sure to have it available when/if I sell the bike.  I totally get why you'd keep it close to stock Honda, but again I spent the money on wire, and I'm half way into it right now.  I'll make sure the documentation is up to date, and hopefully this won't be too much of a first timer fubar situation.

Still appreciate the advice, and keep it coming, I've taken (almost) all of it when it has come my way!

Regarding the speedo cup, how will yu secure the unit to the cup now that y arent using their threaded receiver? Its also advisable to isolate thwt unit with a small rubber bushing instead of a hard mount only. The vibration is a bit hard on them in the long run.

Still working on that.  The fit is a very tight press fit right now, so I was thinking of just turning the threads down a bit and wrapping a small bit of rubber around the gauge before sliding it in, hoping to still keep it a tight press fit.  I was also planning on getting a large o-ring to slide on for where the lip of the gauge meets the top of the gauge bucket.  Still a bit of a work in progress in my head and probably needs some refinement.

Did you end up mounting the gauge with some rubber to isolate the road vibration?  also is your mount point just one bolt to the lower left.  You might need another mounting point to reduce stress on the mount.

I did order some rubber wrap, and an o-ring for where the face meets the cup.  My local hardware store didn't have either.  I'll install it before firing up and taking out and calling things done.

It's just on the bottom left.  I was a bit worried about that, in the end I bought a pretty heavy gauge steel for the mounting ear, and the materials cost me about $12.  I rationalized the approach in my head by doing a bit of thumb in the air engineering.  I'll monitor the mount for cracks, and in the end if I have to replace it, or re-build it I'm really out a small amount of money and some extra welding practice.

It's a good thought though, and something I'll probably follow up on after I've put some miles on this thing.

This one starts (again) with more excuses.  Just didn't have much time this weekend again.

I got the Headlight bucket all wired up, all the handle bar control side wires run, (not fully wired up).

I need to work on my shrink tube length consistency looks like :-[

And the headlight bucket - I'm realizing how awesome Cal's suggestion of staggering connectors down the cable runs back to the electrics tray vs. cramming them all in the headlight bucket is.  There's now so much room in there!  I remember taking the original apart and thinking I was never going to get everything shoved back in there.

Also got the M-Lock wired up and mounted

Feels like I got a lot left to wire:
  • Ricks
  • Hand controls
  • Seat latch solenoid
  • Speedo/Tach
  • Coils
  • Charging system
  • GPS Hot start cutoff
  • Neutral indicator
  • Oil pressure indicator

Hopefully I'll have enough time to bang all that out next chunk of time I get.  Also got word that my front rim is done at powder coater so I can get that laced up.  Still waiting on shocks, and swingarm from Hondaman, but I think most of those will go quick when I get them.

Then carbs and start er up!

Man that looks really nice! would love to hear your thoughts on the M-Lock when you get it all working do you think its worth the money etc?
also whats "GPS Hot start cutoff" guessing its some type of anti theft #$%*? are you really worried about the bike being stolen in Portland?

I bet the "hot start cut-off" is to disable the GPS power when cranking the electric START. Saves the battery.

M-LOCK is well worth the money if you're using the M-UNIT. No keys scratching up your ride. Multiple M-LOCKs can be programmed to a single fob (1 fob to operate every bike you have), and you can use their micro fob too (sewn into the liner of your helmet as its about the size of a grain of rice).

I think I'll echo Cal's sentiments.  I read a lot of reviews from folks with multiple bikes, and above and beyond just the "cool" factor, I think it'll be useful on any other bikes I buy/build.  But yeah I'll post back if I have any issues.  I'm sure they'll be operator error if anything.

The "GPS Hot start" is a feature of the GPS speedo/tach I bought.  It has a wire that draws 25 micro amps that will poll for GPS location when you shut your bike off so that you don't have to wait for the speedo to acquire signal when you stop at the cafe for an espresso.

I'm paranoid and with the expensive ass battery I bought, I want to be able to shut that off with a switch when I get home, or during the winter so it's not drawing, so I'm just wiring in a switch that I can turn off/on when I'm done riding for a long period of time.  I'm sure it would take months if not years to drain the battery at 25 micro amps but I've learned to be skeptical of documentation.  Especially now that I got a few hours today, and was going to wire up the speedo/tach.

I went to wire up the turn signal and H-Beam indicators and this is what I see coming out of the back of the unit.  I guess if I used this unit I'd have a hard time knowing if my right turn signal and/or high beams were on.   >:( >:( >:(

I've sent speed hut an email and we'll see what they have to say.

Easy enough, Mule-

From Koso:
Red - Aux
Black - ground
White - Aux
Gr/YLL - Turn L output
Gr/Red - Turn R output
BL/Wht - Tap into HI output

Yellow - to coil 2 signal wire (also yellow)

Done yet?

Problem is, there is no Gr/Red or

Dunno where those wires are!

For sure! - I've put the install guide and my picture side by side, and drawn lines to the bundles that are coming out of my speedo/tach.  To my eye it looks like I'm missing some!
  • Bundle of Red/White/Black
  • Red with Black stripe
  • Yellow with Green stripe
  • Two small black wires which are the ones that connect to the lighting inverter as per the install diagram from the manufacturer

Is the Turn indicator on the gauge front a single element, or are there L and R separate bulbs? If single, you can run both inputs to a single bulb with a diode. Don't know what to tell you about the HI signal though.  :-\

Whelp,

Just got an email from Speedhut and they are asking me to ship the unit back to them to "have the rest of the wires added".

Guessing these are all relatively modular circuit boards, and they just solder or have pins to attach wires based on model.  Kind of interesting.

Anyway, least now I know I'm not crazy.

That sounds like fairly responsive customer service (from Speedhut).  Hopefully, they'll sort it out.

True!  Quite pleased, I actually cut a connector off one of the wires coming out of the speedo (the left turn signal indicator) to wire into my harness based on the install documentation that I linked to.  Turns out that was the tach wire, so I asked them to replace that wire/connector if possible as I want to make use of their stock connector.  We'll see how things come back.

This is the first thing I've purchased from them, but both of my emails were returned from their tech support team in less than 24hr, and I had a shipping label in my inbox very shortly after they asked me to ship back.
