(silly?) neutral light Q?
« on: April 18, 2016, 07:56:25 PM »
CB750 K4, the neutral light works fine but the bike will only crank over with the clutch lever pulled in. Is that normal? I owned a K3 once but that was a long time ago. All the wires in the headlight bucket seem to be connected and it does start and run.

The K4 diagram shows a "starter motor safety unit"? This item was replace on the K8 with a simple diode, but I had the same issue when the diode failed on my K8.

What causes the neutral light to stay lit no matter what gear the bike is in? (K7)

On a goldwing it's carbon buildup, different deal on a 750 though.

A bad neutral switch.
Test the wiring...remove the wire from the switch and ground it anywhere on the bike...the light should go on.  Removing it from ground and the light should go off.
I had good luck cleaning my N switch.  In a kerosene bath, actuated the ball-end until its movement was smooth, and then rinsed it in acetone.  Re-installed with a new oring.
