That's what I'm hoping for.  I think a Rossi/Vinales team would be awesome, at least until one of them pisses the other one off! ;D  I'm also hoping to see Alex Rins in a Tech3 spot.

I'm still in shock that Lorenzo actually did it!  It's a risky move, but for the sake of his legacy it's pretty much what he has to do to get out from under Rossi's shadow.

I kinda see it the other way....I'm sure rossi is glad to see him go, as it makes him (rossi) top dog in the team instead of being the team mate of the current world champion  (although that would have probably not been the case next year if lorenzo had stayed at yamaha, given the marquez form this year).
I don't think lorenzo will have any trouble adapting to the ducati like rossi did...they are a different bike now. And mmm, stoner being test rider, lorenzo #1 in the team...I wonder how much lorenzo will take on board from stoner? Will it be a 3rd bike or is either dovi or the maniac making way for him?
And is pedrosa staying at honda? Will they have him?
Will crutchlow get a ride next year given his crash history?
Interesting times.

I think we're agreeing, but from different standpoints.  I have no doubt that Rossi is happy to see Lorenzo go, and I agree that the Ducati that Lorenzo is going to is vastly different to the one Rossi switched to years ago.  I'm just saying, for Lorenzo's sake, he needs to do this to get out from under Rossi's shadow.  It doesn't matter if it's Ducati or not, he needs to go to another factory and win to prove that he can do it.  He could stick with Yamaha and get several more championships under his belt (possibly) and go down in history as Rossi's teammate who also won a lot of championships, or he can switch teams, hopefully get several more championships, and go down as one of the greatest in the sport, on his own, with no asterisk by his name. 

Regardless of the outcome, I am really hyped by the changes that Lorenzo's switch will make in the following seasons.  This is a true top-down change that will affect all three classes, and I can't wait to see what happens!

It is my impression that the Michelins are better suited to the Ducati the the Bridgestones were, so that may be a factor in Lorenzo's decision also.

yamaha need a spanish rider to suit the sponsors moviestar , if they cant get vinales they are in trouble .
i did hear that pedrosa was going to ktm to partner smith but am not sure how accurate that is
there is another reason for Lorenzo's move , he will be working for  Gigi dall'igna again . last time they were together he won two world championships for aprilia .
and of corse he would like to succeed where rossi failed !
