Just about anything works for that :D.  Pricey but excellent...Metzlers and Continentals.   Cheap but useable...Shinkos and Bridgestone.  I suggest always being ready for any performance situation...top 3 in order-  Pirelli Sport Demons, Avon Roadriders, Bridgestone BT-45's.

Steve-O rides a lot of bikes a lot and thus has some other possibilities that I have not used.
If it works good, it looks good...

I have the Avons (first time) on 1 F and Bridgestone Spitfires (probably 3 sets so far but that was when you could get white letter) on the other. I am not a knee dragger but go quick in straight lines.
As of today 3/13/2012 my original owner 75 CB750F has made it through 3 wives, er EX-wives. Free at last.  ;-)

I had Metzeler Lasertec. Rear tire just vanished before 5000kms! >:( Like the sport tires back in the 80's. I hoped it should last like my back in the 80's really good Metzeler ME-99, 8000kms.
Replaced both tires, Dunlop Street Smart, 100/90-19 V, 120/90-18 V. (same dim as the Metzelers) Bike got better handling with Dunlop. Quicker response when leaning the bike

Can't say I've ever read any good reviews about the Firestones. They have the "vintage look", but everything I've read implies they also have "vintage handling".

No first hand experience though, so if anyone has run these with good results the feel free to set me straight!  ;)

Motorcycle Superstore is my go to source for tires, they ship fast and free above some $$ limit.

Edit:  Just got another flyer from them, they do free shipping often.

I think the firestones are just aesthetic wise if you go vintage. But i probably have read some reviews about it and they were not that good in terms of performance. Maybe if im gonna go race my cb750, ill probably have to get functional tires. The metzeler i havent got to check that. I saw shinko tires and avon tires and they got some quite good reviews for the classic look tires plus performance

Reviews of the Shinko's lead me to believe they are good "bang for the buck". I have good results with Kenda tires as well. Just about any new tire will out perform any tire that was produced in the 70's, with maybe the exception of the Firestones. The reviews I've read about the Firestones indicate that they are ill handling, even on the street.

Thats what i read also. But im willing to take the risk. Hehehe. Its the aesthetics for now. If i dont get to drive it dafely even on  alow cruise then ill probably go and get to the next level. Yeah shinko is really a good bang for our pockets, its just that they are not as wide as our tires are and the sizes are only 16 for the classic look. I guess ill be picking the avon tyres which follow the specification base on the manual.

My money always goes to the Bridgestone Spitfire's.  I've been using them for years on my 76 CB750f and 81 GL1100.
Dual compound, good in the wet, long lasting.  Reasonably priced.  And they are a bias ply which is what you need for your bike.  Radials aren't recommended.

Buy them. You'll thank me.

I had 'em on a 550F, did not care for them, especially after I experienced a loss of grip on the rear tire. It's a budget tire at best. No thank you.
The Bridgestone BT 45 is a better tire for not much extra coin.

Be careful with the stinkos if you live in a cool or cold climate.  They take a good long time to warm up, and I have had some dangerous scares when they are cold.

I had Avon roadriders on my F1. I really liked them for the short time I owned it after I put them on.  some have reported the Avons crack prematurely. Buy from somewhere that moves a lot of tires and ask about the date code.  i've bought new 2 year old tires before.
