Removing Kick Starter roll pin "keeper"
« on: April 25, 2016, 12:58:57 PM »
I've split the cases on my CB750K engine and am going through disassembly of the transmission and kick starter components in the upper case. There is a role pin that holds the kick starter shaft and gear in place. What is the best way to remove the pin without damaging it or the upper case?

If its the one I am thinking its hollow with a split along the side. Carefully squeeze it together and tap the tool with a hammer. I have used with caution dull wire cutters.

Heat gun + dykes work well.

Thanks very much for the replies! I'll give it a shot with the heat gun and dykes and let you know how it goes.

Be prepared, it may likely be a PITA, especially if there is not much to grab. Remember to walk away if you feel like throwing something. ;D. Mine was stuck so bad and down so far that I had to use a small drill bit to grab it and get it spinning inside first.

I used the diagonal cutters and levered it out pretty quick.
