M-77 Assembly Paste Inside
« on: April 24, 2016, 11:18:58 AM »
Hello Gents,

I have begun reassembling my 78 CB550 as of last night.  I have the cases ripped apart and and I am wondering about a lubricant (aside from 10w-40) to coat interior components.  I bought Honda M-77 Assembly Paste and began to coat bearings and a few components inside the crank case, and then thought that this may not be for the "Assembly" of the internal engine components.  I did some light searching and found that M-77 is a molybdenum lubricant and can cause trouble with clogging oil pathways.  Not to answer my own question, but I am looking for some insight any of you might have with this lubricant.  How worried about removing all of it should I be? Are there any adverse effects of leaving a little in there?  Any info helps!

As a follow up, I went to an auto parts store and all of the assembly lubes have moly and or graphite in them.  My only remaining concern is whether this will clog the oil filter.  Anyone have experience with this happening?

Redline Assembly Lube is a good thing.
After first startup, I replaced the filter after 50mi or so, then again at 200 and 1000mi.
the first early change will get most of it out.
