Swaping '77 750A engine/transmission into '78 750K frame
« on: April 25, 2016, 11:53:21 AM »
I have a decent '77 750A that I bought for my wife and have run across a '78 750 trike that appears to be factory with a 750K engine/transmission.  Would like to combine the 750A engine with the trike set-up but not sure which is easier: swapping the engine/transmission or the trike swing arm set-up.  Any help would be appreciated!  Thanks!!

Swap the trike swing arm set-up if you want to use the tomatic! It is the easier way!

You can swap K engine to Automatic frame easy, but it is somewhat more difficult to go A engine to K frame.

The A engine is taller from top to bottom due to the wet sump oil system. The A frame has curved top rails for clearance.
It can be done with a removable frame rail kit. You should be able to remove the oil pan, all the stuff hanging out, and get it in.
I'm just saying it's not a "plop right in" operation like going with a K/F engine in the A frame.

without the rails and oil filter in the way it should go in, right? i am thinking the oil pan can stay on, or am i wrong?

i am thinking of dropping a matic into a k frame as well, but dont eant to pull the k motor until i have all my ducks in a row. i have done it on chopper frames, just not stock

Not positive, but I think so. I've put a K in an A but never tried going A to K/F.
If it's a street bike, you probably gotta use the A side stand gizmo and the A rear brake gizmo.

it didnt work.  the torque converter needs more clearance on the bottom right frame mount.   i pulled it right back out, didnt want to hack a perectly good frame, lol. btw, the only other thing besides the oil filter housing was the frame rails.
