Saint, where are you from? The 550 I ride has no title. In CT you don't need one if it's past 20 or 25 years old. Even if purchased from out of state. My bike's from New Jersey.

I'm from Oregon, so Dave what do you? Do you have registration? I stopped in the DMV to ask them and hey basically said you have to be able to track down the ower and have him sign it over... That seems like a very hard thing to do.. I hope that when I have the bike and the VIN I'll be able to get some better info.

Do you have a copy of the Honda Shop Manual or Parts List for your bike? Get one here:

I guess you'd be screwed if a friend or family member stole it.

Not sure if I was clear, but I bought my bike in New Jersey but I live in CT. I just have the bike registered and insured and that's it. I needed to get an ownership affidavit saying the person I'm buying it from is the actual owner. Meaning if someone else were to come up with a title for it then the person who signed the affidavit (the seller) could be at fault for selling stolen property or something.

Slayed, here's a link explaining the process for a lien sale in Oregon from a few years ago on a 4x4 website. If you're willing to go through the steps, then you might be able to keep the bike. Or, at the very least, get some money for it. Or, you can try the online title services.

Oregon might be fairly easy. I noticed they seem to be a dumping ground for rebuilt and salvage titled vehicles. I live in washington and will shop for cars/motorcycles/boats in Oregon too and notice a whole lotta salvage title vehicles. Not sure what's going on down there.

Washington is not quick and easy to get a lost title for a vehicle that you do not own. In fact, by law you are not supposed to sell a vehicle in our state without a title of some kind.
