project KindaK2.. belgium...
« on: January 20, 2015, 10:03:26 AM »
so, got myself a new project 2 weeks ago.
see topic: http://forums.sohc4.net/index.php?topic=144006.0

basically bought a K2, F2 and F0 for 350$ :)

the K2 was the only complete bike, the F2 and F0 were just frames with a huge pile of parts.
So got to work on the F2 first, made it look like a bike again and put it up for sale, should be sold this week

(kind'of a frankenbike but whatever gets it sold :) )

so about the K2, there loads of uncorrect parts. gauges, engine, rear wheel, tank...
not going for a complete restauration here just some improvements and ride it for a season.

wrong gauge:

the correct one (i think cause its green :) ) was on the F2 so made the best out of both

the rear wheel on the bike, probably not the correct one? spokes are aprox. 4.7inch and it's a 17 so K7?

could this be the right wheel for the bike? was in the pile of parts, spokes are 5.5inch

then the front brake was seized, together with the master cylinder, bike stood for more then 10 years in a barn, that's why the chrome is so bad

got the nipple and brake line of without destroying them, doesn't happen to often for me :)

let me know if you see anything not original besides tank, carbs, engine etc.

got it running 10minutes after I unloaded it, big gamble because I had no idea about condition of the engine oil etc but it runs great, even drove it for a few miles, not to bad!

done some work to the bike.

rebuild the front brake and installed a working master cylinder, not the correct model but it works...

also hooked up older style carbs instead of the F2 carbs that were on it, just got one float that needs adjusting

quick question, there's two small black hoses coming from the carbs, you can see them in the pictures next to the fuel inlet, do they go somewhere or can you leave them like that?

then started rewiring the whole thing. Somebody really messed around with it, they oil light was placed UNDER the lid of the fuel tank. so no way of checking oil problems while riding... loads of missing wires, grey dried up tape everywhere...

nevermind the red/blue connectors, I ran out of brass connectors, will change them once the new ones come in...

put the control lights back where they belong

electronic ignition plate installed

and a rear ligth, again probably not the correct one, but had this one lying around, will do for this summer :)

got the bike running with the carbs, but as I said, need to fix a floatboal issue and find back the damn airfilter I misplaced :D

floatboal issue is fixed, mounted the airbox on it.
It's running good now but just the pipe on cylinder 4 is not getting hot, not really anyways...

1,2 and 3 are over 500F while number 4 is still just under 100F...

it's got spark, fuel, cleaned all the jets, any idea what else I can check?
Compression is pretty equal on all 4cyls.

thx for thinking with me!

sounds like you are getting fuel to it then.

so worked on it for another 3 hours today.
swapped the coils, cleaned the carb again to then find out it was just a stupid plug that isn't working...

so now it's getting hot(ter) but still not in the same degree at the others, maybe not enough fuel all the time?

will syncronise the carbs once I get some gauges...

drove it for a few miles today. Runs pretty good, just when it's idling there's a "puffing" sound from one of the carbs (can seem to find out which one exactly).
What can cause this? otherewise runs and pulls fine.

thx

had some trouble getting it to start, ran fine once it did start but went over the ignition again, and checked the idle screws on the carbs, these were all in a different setting, from half turn to 2 turns. Got them all correct and it's way better now!

yesterday, there was a caferacer fair near where I live so decided to go there to pick up some parts.
unfortunatly on our way there, the engine in my van decided to blow up 15mins before we got there.

got there in the end and was able to pick up the parts I needed.
the K2 will be the daily till I'm finished building a new motor for my volkswagen.

so went on with a much needed service on the forks, the right one was leaking pretty bad.

here's the mayonaise that came out:

as you can see destroyed the container while emptying the forks, messy stuff!

all cleaned with new seals!

no time to paint the lowers but they match the rest of the bike with the chipped paint  ;D

another pic with my sorry looking F2 waiting for the head and barrels to return from the engine shop!
as you can see, got tired of the pink looking tank so gave it a quick coat of satin black.
Really hope i can source a correct tank soon since I really don't like this one, way to wide. but at least its spotless on the inside!

I've been enjoying this one very much allready!
drove it to work a couple of times, went on a great little trip last friday hasn't let me down yet!
and that for a bike that almost came free!

but did notice a small crack in the lower frametube (left hand side) so got into it...

screwdriver poked right through

after some grinding

and welded it

did some more inspection on this frame rail and in the back found another much bigger crack. unfortunatly really hard to reach with grinder/welder without removing the engine so this will have to wait till winter (excellent opportunity to clean the frame too  ;D)

That sucks.  Maybe from water in the frame sitting and rotting through the metal.  You may want to use some of this:

Soooo, after lots of excellent miles this summer on the old lady, even used here as commute bike this summer for a few weeks cause my van was out of service, time has come to tear her down and do a rebuild/resto.

took the motor out, seemed much harder to get it out then with my F2. No idea why really...

engine out, won't do much to besides paint and new valve cover gasket. ran fine and compression is good...

But when it would fail me next summer, scored and awesome deal on a frame kit on ebay. $30 :)

super easy to install by the way!

and offcourse took the forks and swingarm out

ready for an overhaul

and frame rail had one other crack, saw it before but was difficult to fix with engine in place.

drilled a hole on each side to prevent further cracks and welded it up...
