Float Bowl Screw Issue?
« on: May 02, 2016, 09:34:23 AM »
As my journey to clean/rebuild my CB400f carbs continues, I notied the FB drain screw on the carb closest to the choke (not sure if that is 1 or 4) is a hair bigger than the other 3 AND the hole near the o-ring does not extend through the other side as it does in the other 3. My thought is someone stripped the old screw and put a slightly larger one in (but I could be wrong). Ideally, I would like to replace this cover and another one, but I cannot find replacements ANYWHERE (not a fan of ebay).

Also, before I pulled the carbs it was leaking a littke gas, but that could have been for a multitude of reasons. I'm sure I'm bound to find similar "workarounds."

And feedback or suggestions where I can find replacements would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you Larry. I assume the 4th screw should not be that way!?!?

The drain screw isn't a jet, the size of those holes only allow you to drain the bowls without taking the plug totally out and having it be a deluge.  The size of those holes would even vary directly from the factory probably cause it just doesn't matter.

As for the head being a little bigger, probably from a different batch or bike.  Doesn't really matter unless you want to it to.

Now if you're saying that it was leaking gas from the drain SCREW, then it was probably just the o-ring.  If you're leaking from other areas, well then that's a separate issue.

You can buy new repop drain screws from different places, like siriusconinc.com.

The issue is I can't say for sure if the screw is/is not the issue. Ideally I would like to replace the cover in addition to another cover where a hole is starting to form at the bottom, from the inside out. Would Honda still sell replacements? Like I said, I'd like to fix/replace whatever I can while the carbs are off. Thanks for the info.

OCW for clarification what are you calling the "cover."  Do you mean the float bowl?  I have plenty of spare bowls:
