Customs in Japan Q?
« on: April 28, 2016, 06:40:39 PM »
Has anyone else seen the pics of the custom bikes in Japan? Road race fairings way up in the air, 60's style 6' tall backrests. More baubles and bangles bolted on than a Christmas tree. What's with that?  I hope it stays there.

It's like car wheels here.
No matter how many times you paint over a shadow, it's still there.

Bosozoku huh? Possibly safe to ride though, where some build types may not be. It's like the guy that finished his project but still had money to spend. If more is better, too much is just right.

"The word bōsōzoku is also applied to motorcycle subculture with an interest in motorcycle customizing, often illegal, and making noise by removing the mufflers on their vehicles so that more noise is produced. These bōsōzoku groups sometimes ride not wearing motorcycle helmets, also engage in dangerous or reckless driving, such as weaving in traffic, and running red lights. Another activity is speeding in city streets, not usually for street racing but more for thrills. With many bikes involved, the leading one is driven by the leader, who is responsible for the event and is not allowed to be overtaken. Japanese police call them Maru-Sō (police code マル走 or 丸走), and dispatch a police vehicle to trail any groups of bikes to prevent any possible incidents, which can include riding very slowly through suburbs at speeds of 5–10 mph, creating a loud disturbance and waving imperial Japanese flags, to start fights which can include weapons such as wooden swords, metal pipes, baseball bats and Molotov cocktails. These bōsōzoku gangs are generally composed of people under the legal adult age, which in Japan is 20 years old."

There was a pic of one with 3 stacked fairings. It was only as stupid as the 30' long chopper built here.

Yeah man not my cup of tea, but Let them live!! Rick.

Believe me, if I was in Japan I would stay well away from them

"... groups of bikes to prevent any possible incidents, which can include riding very slowly through suburbs at speeds of 5–10 mph, creating a loud disturbance and waving imperial Japanese flags, to start fights which can include weapons such as wooden swords, metal pipes, baseball bats and Molotov cocktails."

I always get the impression that the Japanese are mocking people when they do these mods.
