4 into 4 exhaust systems
« on: May 18, 2016, 06:58:04 PM »
I did some searches about 4 into 4 exhausts for my 1973 CB750. I read that a 4 into 1 may be better performance wise. I'm not too concerned with performance, cause I really do like the look of the 4 into 4s. But they are extremely pricey and I'm not seeing a lot of options. Do you guys know of any other options for a 4 into 4? If I can't find one, I wouldn't be opposed to a 4 into 2 system. Another question is what would the over sound and tone difference between them be?
Thank you

If you really like the look of 4-4, (on a mostly stock bike, there is nothing better in my opinion) save up for a bit and get some reproductions from Yamiya. I has a very good quality 4-1 exhaust on my 72 CB750. I loved it, but from the left side it always looked like something was missing. I have 4-4 currently and would not go back for a daily rider. I'm sure there are performance gains, but in my opinion for a daily driver they are negligible. As far as sound, it's hard to describe. 4-1 sounds to me more like a higher pitched exotic car, while 4-4 sounds lower pitched.

4-2's are hard to find but I think the hooker 4-2 was the best sounding header for a sohc750. Lighter than a 4-4 set yet still looks the same on both sides.

You'd think it would be easy this day in age to find a knock off set of pipes for one of the most popular vintage bikes of all time without spending upwards of a grand.

Cycle X is offering a stainless steel 4 into 4... if I am recalling correctly.
Also, you could also run 4 slip on mufflers of you're choice.  With the stock pipes the mufflers usually rot, split, etc.... but the head pipes are generally solid.

I have been searching for a set of 4-4 headers as well for my CB550. I was almost going to get the MAC drag pipes and use them as a basis for headers and then found these http://www.swarbrick-racing.co.uk. There are two videos of CB550s running his exhaust, sounds amazing. Just waiting to hear back with postage costs to Australia before I order.
