Headlight fitting
« on: November 15, 2006, 04:38:26 PM »
I found a fairing from an old BMW that looks interesting to me and looks like it'll go cheap. The headlight opening is 9" in diameter. How would the 1"gap around the headlight affect the fairing??
I've seen some fairings with gaps but never took the time to measure them to compare.

Obviously, some air would get through, but I'm running with just a deflector shield that lets a heck of a lot more air past and it OK with me, even here in chilly Buffalo.  If the bypass seems excessive, I'm sure you could fab up some sort of air block using insulation, weatherstripping, whatever; heck how about a can of Great Stuff?

I'm sure some kind of a solution to seal the gap would present itself if needed. I wonder if any kind of weird pressure thing would occur with the gap??? I don't really know jack about fairings...

I doubt it. Think of the 'ram air' holes in modern fairings, or of the venting holes in some fairings to smooth the air flow (Like the 98-01 VFR800)....

That's a good point. Also i noticed the old vetter fairings had vents in the windshield to allow airflow.
