What's the big deal with spline lubes?  Haven't read up on it, but people make a big deal about having had it done.  Is it that complex?

No, not complex.  There is a fair amount of disassembly involved.  Carbs, airbox, tank and swingarm pivots, etc.  There is plenty of info and how-to directions online.  You will become aquainted with the writings of gentleman called Snobum.  It is important that it gets done.  The problem is corrosion of the splines on the tranny input shaft that engage the clutch plate.  They rust and the splines go away.  One fine day you give it the gas and you no go.  All preventable with the occasional spline lube. 

The first time I did a spline lube on my GS, it took four hours.  The last one a couple of months ago took an hour and half and I was in no hurry.

tintin, I just bought a 71 r75/5. not near the condition of yours. more of a basket case, but I cannot wait to put it back together and ride it. nice find, I am fairly envious.

Seriously though, the airheads are great bikes.  You should see them perform at the vintage races.  And you can always CAFE them.  I have a buddy with an R90 that has ove 216,000 MILES on it now, and still goes strong.  Great bikes.  This one is a keeper, don't sell it (but if you do, remember I am just in Milton so you can drop it off easy )
