Really? 59.9% for a credit card?
« on: May 07, 2016, 03:32:22 PM »
England really needs to crack down on these people offering "free" credit cards with 59.9% interest.

When I was young there were usery laws to prevent such abuse. The obvious intent is to bleed the uninformed or desperate of anything they have left.

Like the lottery, a tax on those bad at math.
Can I have a motorcycle when I get old enough?
If you take care of it.
What do you have to do?
Lot’s of things. You’ve been watching me.
Will you show me all of them?
Sure.
Is it hard?
Not if you have the right attitudes. It’s having the right attitudes that’s hard.

What's really amazing are there are actually people who will accept those terms. My buddy bought a used car once with bad credit, paid 26.75% IR. Are you out of your freaking mind?

It's why I've stuck with Discover all these years.

I remember back in 2009? when the Feds put in all those credit card interest rate controls - and suddenly just before that happened my Sears and Visa cards both jumped to something like 39% or so.  It really was that high.

I dropped everyone except Discover - who still hasn't changed my interest rate since I opened the account.

Sears was the worst though

I agree with you Don, and the end result will be civil unrest.  Our system worked great for over 150 years and that started to change in the 80s with technology, globalization, and women entering the workforce.  We went from a labor shortage to a labor surplus and I don't think men or women are better off or happier.

Nothing against women working, but what I see is when the turn 30 they want to start a family and if they make more than their husband and have to work they become resentful.  They also become resentful if their man does not earn enough for them to stay home when the children are little.

We were all sold a bill of goods and people are starting to wise up to the fact.  I am for equal work for equal pay, but am against declining standards of living.  As far a usery it is alive and well.  Heck Congress even wrote it into law.  We need to have constitutional congress and get our government back.  Corporations are not people and should not be able to use their money to purchase our government.  This practice of political capture needs to be abolished.

It started to change with the introduction of liberalism.  The whole point is to enslave society by their own will. Unfortunately it's working very well.
You don't have to buy anything from any corporation you don't want to. If the government tells you, you have to buy something, you have no choice. (Obamacare).  Sorry about the political overtone, but if that is a problem, you can sue me.

I would argue that the privatization of healthcare under Nixon was much worse than Obummercare but that's just politics.  :)

I think we can all agree healthcare in America is a joke compared to other developed nations.  It you want full benefits it will cost you an arm and leg.
