No power to CB750K6
« on: May 04, 2016, 05:58:12 PM »
I was off and on my CB750-K6 all day with no problems. I came home from work and parked it. When I got back on it this evening, no power. The dash lights, horn, starter, etc. would not work. The battery still had a full charge and the 3 fuses on the left side seemed fine. Any suggestions?

..."fuses seemed fine" is not a proper way to diagnose.
Check them with an ohmmeter.

And I would get the battery "load tested" at an auto parts store - usually a free service.  It is possible that it can't deliver the amps anymore and its worn out.

At minimum, pop them out and swap them with some from the spare cache of fuses-that-you-always-carry-with-you-because-it-would-be-dumb-to-be-stranded-by-something-so-small.

;)

Another thing to check would be the key switch.  Check for power on RED, then switch it on and check for power on BLACK.

Start checking all electrical connections if the fuse checks out and check the old fuse box also . I once was let down for awhile because my ignition switch connector under the gas tank became disconnected mostly because I has the switch located with an aftermarket bracket up by the handlebars. Probably a simple fix when you trace it down.

Be sure to check the earth cable to frame connection as well.

I got it! It was the 20A fuse. It showed good on the meter but only intermittently. I changed it and all's well. Thanks all.

Good!   I'd clean the fuse holder to prevent further issues. Emery cloth works well.

Ike,
Unless you want to keep the K6 absolutely stock, I would suggest you give some thought to the Hondaman Fuse Box.
It is a plug and play replacement of the old style glass fuses with the new blade style fuses.

I can't find the link right now, but I'm sure if you PM Hondaman, he can provide the info you need.

Check your grounds, maybe a loose ground connection somewhere near the battery.

+1.  The original fuseholders weren't made to last 40+ years, not too mention it's easier to find the modern blade style fuses.  Here's a link - http://sohc4shop.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=23&products_id=48
