New guy from Northern BC
« on: November 15, 2006, 11:27:33 PM »
Greetings to all.
I have been reading the forums for some time now and decided to get my registration right. (I did something wrong several months ago). I have a 1977 750K that I've taken over from the previous owner who was attempting a restoration with questionable skills. This bike will never be a concours item, but I hate to see these oldies sent to the dump. I intend to get it running and ride it on nice days during our 6 month poor sledding season! I also have a '74 DOHC 450 in rough (probably parts only) condition and an '81 XL 250S. Regards, bc308.

bc308,

Where are you in BC?  I used to live in the southern mainland.  I've seen a handful of BC folks on here.

Ha, ha, ha.  That's rich.  I'm going to use it.  It's not that bad here in upstate New York; however, I have friends in Vermont who lament their short summers.  Good luck on your project.

Greetings and thanks to all for their replies.
I am in Smithers on Highway 16, halfway between Prince George to the east and Prince Rupert on the Pacific Coast. In American terms, that's about 1 1/4 hours north of Seattle via 737 jet, but I can ride to Hyder, Alaska in 3 1/2 hours. Diehards can sled for 6 months if they drive far and high enough, but our best sledding is from January to the end of April with easy access to the starting points such as the Big Onion or Dome Mtn.
Dirt bikers can start before sledding ends, especially the mud lovers. The best road biking is from the beginning of April to the end of September. Insurance tends to be packaged in six month terms, so this is probably the period when most bikers ride. In some years there is good biking weather in March and October. We are on the lee side of the Coast mountain range, but that's not to say we're in arid or even semi-arid country. We get our share of rain, so fairings are handy for liquid sunshine as well as cold days and evenings. On a ride to say, Hyder, one goes through several distinct climatic zones where blistering sun can become rain or slush and then back to sun. I have to get on with things, so bye for now.
Regards.
