Attached are two pictures, one broken old trying to replace. 2 replacement that apparently doesnt work, that I was told was from a 73 or 74. I am trying to attach this to a cb750k2.

First looks like 73-76. Second might be 500 with different offset...note the faint circle around the stem Area.

K6 may have smaller pinch bolts on the forks.

The "new" one doesnt fit the same as the original, the original is a more forward offset. So can anybody tell me pretty definitely what I need to find to replace my broken one, also what the "new" one belongs to?

Not sure what you mean by the smaller pinch bolts....

New one looks like the 500 style.
Use D rings.
The top of the forks go into top tree, then get clamped, the clamp bolts come in two sizes.

So the new one is a cb500 and mine is still a 73-76k?

One fitment clue to look for is the rectangle shape recess location. Left side recess is for CB750K and right side recess is for CB500/550K.

A bit of trivia: Japanese market bikes used this recess for their overspeed warning decal placement.

I did notice the little square, also the thickness of the metal in the central girth

Good to know, thanks for the trivia

  • To many bikes-but lookin' for more
I remember the first time Dream posted that I ran out to look at my bike and sure enough there it was. Been riding and working on these 750's since 1981 and had never even noticed it :D.

I noticed that recess before but never knew that 750 was on left, 550 on right. I just checked my bikes, they are all correct!

Thanks Dream!
