750 seat latch adjustment?
« on: May 07, 2016, 07:07:48 PM »
Like the title says, or is it possible to adjust even? The plunger has two detents, and the first detent is the one that engages on my bike.
Problem is, the seat will not close tightly in that position. With enough tweaking and bending of the lock plate, the second detent on the plunger will finally engage and latch, but with the seat excessively clamped down and stressed. Anyone ever encounter this? Besides a bent lock plate, is there anything going on with the plunger assy. that might not be obvious? TIA.

As far as I recall there are some rubber pieces between seat and the frame.  Still there?  Do they line up?

It may not be the lock that causes the problem.

$0.02 only of course.

Maybe try adding some washers between the latch pin and the seat pan, so the latch pin comes down lower.

If you do this, make sure the holes in the washers are small enough that the sleeve in the center of the isolaters sits on the washer, otherwise you're just compressing the rubber.

If you lift up the spring there is another nut, if you stick the end of the detent rod in the vice and get two 12mm spanners you can loosen the two nuts and get a tiny bit of adjustment there - if you screw them down too far the second detent wont engage at all... pity you don't have much room to back the nuts up much though...
